Power firm eyes Diss wind farm

A renewable power company is considering building a seven-turbine windfarm in a rural location near Diss.

South Norfolk Council is consulting parish and district councillors on the proposal from SLP Energy to develop a site at Semere Green Lane, Dickleburgh and adjoining land in neighbouring Pulham St Mary and Pulham Market.

Kerry Bradfield, spokesman for Lowestoft-based SLP, stressed that it is very early days, and the first step is to find out how much wind is generated at the site.

“The important thing to remember is all we have done is to apply for a temporary meteorological mast, as until we have measured the available wind resource we can't say whether it would be suitable for a windfarm.”

People have until July 18 to write to South Norfolk Council with their views on the scoping application.

Planning officer Richard Cooper said SLP Energy has indicated that five turbines would be sited in the northern part of Dickleburgh, and one each in Pulham Market and Pulham St Mary.

Dickleburgh and Rushall Parish Council is considering holding a public meeting before giving its response.
