Roman coins declared treasure
10 March 2005 20:04
A hoard of Roman bronze coins and a 4th-century gold ring found on farmland in West Norfolk were declared treasure today.
Stephen Brown found 25 coins, believed to date back to 150AD using a metal detector between December 2003 and January 2004.
The coins, which are in poor condition, have a picture of Hadrian on them and are believed to come from the start of his reign.
The ring, which is engraved with a fish or dolphin, was found by Mr Brown in November.
Mr Brown also unearthed two fragments of silver, King's Lynn and district coroner William Knowles heard.
The artefacts have been sent to the British Museum for analysis, but it is hoped they will be acquired by Norwich Castle.
