Think not that mortality bears sway on earth; no end nor term is fixed to a life well lived.

The Book of Wisdom is one of the late books of the Old Testament, thought to be from the first century BC. It is not found in all Bibles, but it is worth knowing, because it has some wonderful reflections on what it means to be human.
Tomorrow, on Remembrance Sunday, we remember those who laid down their lives in defence of our country. The Bible passage reminds us that, whether we die in war or peace, death is not the end. A life well lived bears fruit in future generations on Earth and also in the reward of eternal happiness in Heaven.
