1 Samuel - 15, 22

Can the Lord's favour be won by offering him sacrifice and victim instead of obeying his divine will? The Lord loves obedience rather than any sacrifice, the attentive ear rather than the fat of rams.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

When I say I love someone, that person has the right to expect me to listen to what they are saying. If I give them lots of presents, but can't be bothered to listen to them, then I don't really love them.

It's the same with God, Samuel says. If you give God lots of rams and bulls, but don't listen to him, then you don't love him.

Today we don't give God rams or bulls, but our time when we go to church or pray at home. But the gift only means something if we listen to God and do his will.
