Galatians - 3, 27-28

All you who have been baptized in Christ's name have put on the person of Christ; no more Jew or Gentile, no more slave and free man, no more male and female; you are all one person in Jesus Christ.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

This quotation could be taken to mean that all the baptised are identical. There is no longer any difference between people of various nationalities or between men and women. But we have only to look around in any church gathering to see that this is patently not true.

So what does St Paul, who wrote the letter to the Galatians, mean when he said that we are all one person in Jesus Christ? What he means is that each one of us can become like Christ in the way we think and speak and live. And as Christ-like people we are all equal, but not the same, because each one of us keeps his or her God-given, and unique, identity.
