Lowestoft's new fire station was the toast of the town today as it was officially opened by the Princess Royal as part of a tour of the town.

The princess was taken on a tour of the new five-bay station on Stradbroke Road, which will be home to some of the town's firefighters from next month.

She was also treated to displays by fire and rescue crews and young people taking part in a Firebreak training course.

After opening the fire station, the princess visited the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

She then travelled to SLP, a Lowestoft-based company which makes components for offshore rigs.
