Have you ever wished for a more luxurious way to travel between meetings, or wondered how to make use of down time on the way to visit clients?
Two friends from south Norfolk think their “business class” travel experience could be the answer.
G&D Transport Services, based in Great Ellingham near Attleborough, markets its vehicles as “mobile offices”, offering table top space, refreshments and more technological features than your average living room including a printer and internet connectivity.
The men behind it, Geoff Dunk and Doug Gordon, say previous disappointing experiences of “executive” taxi services ignited a desire to do the job better.
“We had the same idea separately and decided to do it,” said former IT worker Mr Dunk. “We wanted to do it to a higher standard – mobile office, VIPs, luxury airport runs, even golf weekends.
“We are targeting corporate clients so we can try to eliminate that dead time they have while travelling.”
Mr Gordon added: “We call it business class for the road because that is what you get – you are looked after.”
The duo pooled around £20,000 to get their enterprise off the starting line with two leased Volkswagen Caravelles, with plans to take on more drivers and grow their fleet as business picks up.
The long wheel base seven-seat vans feature mobile broadband, USB and 240-volt plug sockets, limo-tinted windows, a small table, wireless printer and fridge.
Clients can request extras such as coffee and newspapers for no additional charge.
Mr Dunk and Mr Gordon are also applying to Breckland Council for an alcohol licence to enable them to serve complementary alcoholic drinks alongside water and fizzy drinks.
Mr Dunk, from Great Ellingham, and Mr Gordon, from Loddon, say they will transport customers across the UK and even around Europe – a service they can offer to local sports teams for away games or holiday travellers who prefer not to fly.
As well as corporate clients, who will be able to hold accounts with the company, G&D is marketing itself at the leisure market including race day or luxury shopping trips. To this end the duo are offering their services to visitors to the Houghton Horse Trials this weekend, of which they are a sponsor.
