Ben Rowe, 34, comes from Pleasurewood Hills with a proven track record and a focus on “putting the attraction on the map”.

One of his first jobs will be to introduce a First World War display to commemorate its centenary.

And he has a raft of ideas about how to develop the museum, make better use of its collections and space, and introduce new “live” elements.

The museum was put up for sale in June last year, but has since been taken off the market and had its future refocused.

Having started his career with Bourne Leisure and Haven Holidays, Mr Rowe moved to Pleasurewood Hills as marketing and social media manager, where he masterminded 30th anniversary celebrations and launched the Hobs Pit scare attraction.

And he now has grand plans for Yesterday’s World, which attracts on average 35,000 visitors every year.

Mr Rowe said: “Yesterday’s World has a certain charm that lured me into taking up my new position as general manager.

“There is lots of opportunity to put the attraction firmly on the map of places to visit, to drive up visitor numbers and to increase private hire from the both the corporate market and for private parties.”

Among its displays the museum features a life-size Victorian street, a silent movie theatre and an Anderson shelter, which provides a life-like Second World War experience.

Mr Rowe, who lives with his wife in Hopton, has plans to hold events throughout the year with live actors in costume that will feature as an added attraction.

  • Having been there I must say that it is a very good attraction. Far better than having amusement arcades and stinking burger bars shoved 'in your face'. Dont destroy a good attraction by appealing to the "touchy feely" brigade and the lowest denominator.
