Aspiring tech superstars of the future scoured the breadth of the city’s top digital businesses in a bid to find out more about a career in the industry.
The first #DigitalCity event saw more than 100 young people take part in a Dragon-trail inspired experience visiting 23 digital businesses across Norwich.
Organised by entrepreneur Kieran Miles, the week-long event was aimed to show the next generation of digital talent how they could build a career in the city.
It comes as Norwich was named tech cluster in the second annual Tech Nation report from Tech City UK, which highlighted the UK’s hot spots for digital growth.
Among the companies taking part in the five-day trail was Aviva, Foolproof, Lambda films and Rainbird Technologies.
Lambda Films commercial director Alex Morris said: “The overwhelming thing was a lot of people were really impressed with the scope and breadth of work that goes on in the city that they didn’t even know about.
“For me it felt like there were never any opportunities to do this kind of thing when I was younger.”
Mr Miles said the week had also boosted the online presence of the businesses which took part, reaching more than 100,000 impressions on Twitter. “We have also had some students secure work experience through the event,” he added.
“And a couple of young people said they had learnt more in this week about digital businesses in Norwich than they had during their entire degree.”
Mr Miles said the event had been a success, and would return next year even “bigger and better”.
He added: “It has helped young people realise what is on their doorstep. There are firms here with clients which are global businesses. If they didn’t go in and speak to them they would never know that’s what they do.”
Those taking part were given maps at the beginning of the week, which coincided with school half term, and were encouraged to work their way around the businesses taking part.
