A Dereham woman who went from working with thousands of people to setting up shop on her own is set to mark the first year of her business.

Kate Duffield had spent her career in the catering industry, working in product development for some of both Norfolk’s and the nation’s best known brands, including the Bernard Matthews, Kerry Group, Tulip Foods and Tesco.

Last year, however, she decided on a change of direction and set up her own business Pink Lizard Promotions, supplying bespoke promotional items for a range of firms,
sports clubs, councils and charities.

Within her first year, she has worked with a wide range of organisations including Keeping Abreast cancer charity, Breckland Council and Norwich Research Park, and has supplied anything from branded wooden pens and recycled notepads to umbrellas and USB sticks.

Miss Duffield, 41, whose business is based at Yaxham Road Industrial Estate in Dereham, said: “Starting a business from scratch is hard enough as it is but to do it in an area where you have no experience or contacts is twice as hard.

She added: “I love having my own business. When I first started I was working from home and I hated it - I went from working at Tesco as a development manager for frozen food, with 1,000 people on one floor, to isolation of working at home, it was driving me mad.

“I love my little office and it’s really helped me to drive the business on. I’ve taken on part-time staff and it’s growing all the time.”
