The world of work is rapidly changing and it is our smaller businesses which are often in the vanguard of innovation bringing forward new ideas and ways of doing business.

It is that dynamic and entrepreneurial spirit which our EDP Business Awards Small Business category seeks to celebrate.

Sponsored by Norfolk Chamber, this popular category which is now in its second year, seeks to find those small firms doing amazing things.

And it is no surprise why when you consider the contribution which small firms make to the UK economy.

According to the FSB, small firms account for 47pc of private sector employment and 33.1pc of turnover.

Small and medium-sized firms meanwhile employ 14.4m people with a combined turnover of £1.6bn.

Last year’s winner, Hingham-based Naked Marketing, impressed the judges with its can-do spirit and willingness to do different.

The business was strongly engaged in its local community giving significant support to local traders and community groups, while its excellent customer care has also resulted in its business growing as its clients grow.

Judges said it demonstrated the ambition to grow but at a pace ensuring it continue to give top quality customer service.

Caroline Williams, chief executive of Norfolk Chamber, said: “It is the innovation and dynamism of Norfolk’s small businesses which is the driving force within the local economy. Norfolk’s smaller businesses make up the supply chain for larger business and collectively are a significant employer. We are supporting the Small Business of the Year Award again to help promote and celebrate the smaller business to make them more visible to provide inspiration to businesses of all sizes and those thinking of starting a business themselves.”
