The science and universities minister will urge more businesses to become sustainable during a key event this week.

David Willetts MP will underscore the need to boost productivity by reinforcing the links with research centres across the UK when he opens the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainability Conference 2014.

Mr Willetts, who will appear at the event via video link, said: “Sustainability must be at the heart of everything we do in the future.”

The conference, sponsored by Adapt Low Carbon Group and New Anglia LEP, will be held on Thursday June 12 at the John Innes Centre, Norwich.

As well as the minister, key speakers at the event will include: Carmel McQuaid, climate change manager at Marks and Spencer; Bruno Zago, Hewlett-Packard’s environmental manager for the UK and Ireland; and Mark Pendlington, chair of the Green Economy Pathfinder and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.

Caroline Williams, chief executive of the Norfolk Chamber, said: “Sustainability is now recognised as a great business tool.”

The conference is free to attend, but bookings close on Monday June 9.
