An indoor market on Great Yarmouth’s most familiar tourist thoroughfare has been given a £300,000 revamp ahead of the new holiday season.

Phil Thompson, a long-established businessman in the borough, bought the Regent Road business in November 2012.

His major investment and refurbishment has been carried out this winter in readiness.

The work has included building new secure units with roller shutters, replacing the toilets and decorating the indoor arcade throughout.

Mr Thompson, who also owns two local furniture stores, Better Furniture in Southtown Road and Instant Furniture off the town centre, said: “I think Great Yarmouth can still have a big bright future and you get a lot of footfall along this road, especially from Easter through September.”

The indoor market contains 37 units, nine of which are still available to rent from under £40 a week for a 3sq m unit.

Mr Thompson said: “We are looking for a broad mix of new traders.

“We already have everything from wedding cake makers and fashion outlets to photographers and artists.”

Inquiries about the units should be made to the
market’s manager Terry Walker on 0778 9061561.
