A successful Easter weekend could herald a great summer for the region, tourism bosses have said.

Venues across the region reported punters out in force to enjoy the warm weather – in contrast to the chilly Easter in 2013.

Pete Waters, brand manager at Visit Norfolk, said: 'After last year's disappointing bank holiday weekend, this has been a great Easter for the visitor economy, with one attraction owner telling me that trading was 'mega!' and others saying how busy they've been.

'This spring break has been a shot in the arm for Norfolk tourism and one that will give the industry confidence going into the summer.'

Wroxham Barns had its busiest Easter weekend ever, with more than 14,000 people through the gates – 3,000 more than last year, when visitors were greeted with snow.

Director Ian Russell said takings for the four-day weekend were up 10 per cent on 2013, but they could have been higher had Easter fallen in the middle of the school holidays, as many families were travelling back home today.

At Eaton Park, families were enjoying the new crazy golf course.

Owner Rob Trown said: 'We've probably had 300-400 people over the weekend, and around 200 on the Monday, so we're very pleased.'

Wymondham's annual Easter Monday Duck Race was a hit, with more than 100 ducks per race. One organiser Robert Culyer said it proved 'very, very popular'.

Pleasurewood Hills theme park on the outskirts of Lowestoft enjoyed a 'good' Easter Monday, and general manager Liam Holmes, said: 'The last eight days have been good for us, very positive.'

West Norfolk had a busy Easter weekend, and William Esse, general manager of Church Farm in Stow Bardolph, said: 'It is weather dependant here.

'We have been busy over the holidays as we had nice weather however we were slightly slower Sunday.'

William Searle, who runs the Wash Monster boat trips to the sea, said he could see lots of people in Hunstanton.

He said: 'The caravan site is full and there are quite a few people milling around the town. And it is only April – we are not even into the summer yet.'

Imogen White, manager of Amazona Zoo in Cromer, said Saturday was the best day, helped by the weather which was not quite warm enough for long stays on the beach.

At Sheringham, North Norfolk Railway commercial manager Chrissie Rayment said the whole Easter school holiday was considerably up on last year.

It was busy with tourists along Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile. The cold breeze and yesterday's rain may have put sun-seekers off, but tills were ringing at seafront cafes and amusement arcades.

Having only opened a month ago, Wroxham Miniature Worlds, had an 'outstanding' turnout.

Sean Green, whose family runs the indoor model museum said: 'On Good Friday, we had more than 225 people in one day which was fantastic but it pushed us. It's early days for us but we're really pleased.'
