Online toolkit launched to help Portas Pilot towns

Town centre managers that failed to tap into funding from the government’s Portas Pilot scheme are being urged to sign up to a new resource to help boost their High Streets.
A new online toolkit - “100 Ways to Help the High Street” - has been launched by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) to try and maintain the enthusiasm for town centre regeneration following the scheme spearheaded by “Queen of Shops” Mary Portas.
It comes after Lowestoft was the only town in Norfolk and Suffolk to receive up to £100,000 as part of round two of the government project, whilst bids from Alysham, Diss, Halesworth, North Walsham, Southwold, Thetford, Wisbech, Brandon and Hunstanton missed out.
The new online High Street encyclopedia launched by ATCM, with support from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the European Regional Development Fund, is a collection of tools and ideas to help town teams, town managers, local government officers, councillors, retailers and members of the public.
Martin Blackwell, chief executive of the ATCM, said the online resource aimed to coincide with the Portas Pilot programme and to embrace the government’s Localism Act.
The schemes and case studies cover topics ranging from enhancing the landscape, to consumer marketing, animation and events, partnership working, making the High Street accessible, attracting investment and getting the business mix right.
