Norwich has missed out on a £75m investment by the Royal Mail in Parcelforce.

The express package delivery arm of the Royal Mail announced today that it would take on an extra 1,000 workers as part of the investment by expanding depots across the country.

But Norwich’s Parcelforce depot on Barker Street was not named among nine of the firm’s 52 centres around the country which will be expanded or moved to larger sites. They include Liverpool, Romford, Newcastle, Charlton and Milton Keynes.

The main beneficiary of the investment will be Chorley in Lancashire, where 150 workers will be taken on.

Two new collection and delivery depots will also be opened in Cornwall and Hampshire.

The announcement comes on the back of year-on-year growth of 6pc for Parcelforce.
