Norwich-based start-up venture Cuju media is looking to take advantage of World Cup fever with the launch of a free sports quiz app.

The firm, based at St James Mill, Norwich, has launched ‘SportsQuest’ designed to appeal sports fans who are passionate and knowledgeable about their favourite sport from among 20 to choose from including football, cricket, MotoGP, speedway, snooker, Amercian Football, and darts.

The app also includes a database of more than 25,000 questions organised into more than 260 categories.

Co-founder and tech investor James Duez, who also co-founded EDP Future 50 firm RainBird Technologies, said the aim was to create an engaging and competitive range of game formats to appeal to sports fans of all ages.

“SportsQuest gives fans an opportunity to really test their knowledge against their friends in a fun and social way, online and against the clock,” he said. “Players can challenge each other or be automatically paired against fans with similar interests anywhere in the world. The app also allows users to refine their skills by playing solo, for example when on the underground. Their scores are automatically updated once back online.”

He added it was one of five businesses which he had invested in this year.

“I am about to advertise for 2/3 permanent developer jobs,” he said. “I have invested in this business, one of five this year, and it is hosted right alongside RainBird St. James Mill. One the second floor there is a start-up incubator initiative known as WhiteSpace which I am involved with alongside Neil Garner, Proxama’s CEO. Cuju Media has just closed a fundraise involving five more local investors.”

• The SportsQuest app is free to download and free to play via the Apple App Store. • Click here to download the app. An Android version will be released later this summer.
