Norwich is bucking the national trend and continues to see a year-on-year increase in footfall, a new survey has revealed.

The study by Springboard, which records footfall data across 227 shopping sites in the UK, has revealed a 1.8pc footfall rise.

The figures for Norwich contrast with footfall results across the UK which have seen a third successive month of decline and are down to -0.6pc compared to 2013.

The increase in footfall shows that the number of people visiting and using the city is growing; footfall results are continuing to drive sales for local businesses and reflect a similar decline in the vacant shop figures for the city centre.

Stefan Gurney, chief executive at Norwich Business Improvement District (BID), said: 'It's extremely positive to hear that Norwich is continuing to attract an increasing number of visitors and users to the city centre, especially when the national figures are showing an annual decline. We hope that Norwich BID initiatives will continue to support and contribute to growth in the city, encouraging more people to use the thriving high streets'.
