Five companies from Norfolk have been listed in a table of Britain’s leading mid-market private companies.
Norwich- based home improvement firm Anglian Group was ranked highest of the five at 142 in the Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250.
Thetford-based cleaning products firm Jeyes was at 143.
It made its first acquisition in 2008 when it bought Powder and Liquid Products (PLP) for an undisclosed sum, boosting group turnover by £11m.
This, as well as strong organic growth in Britain and America, helped Jeyes enter the league table at 143 with annualised sales of £207.2m.
Audio visual equipment distributor Midwich, based in Diss, was at 174 and agricultural fertiliser merchant J & H Bunn, based in Great Yarmouth, was at 186.
Marine science firm Gardline, also based in Great Yarmouth, was at 205.
Notably, the number from the county making it into the list has increased dramatically with just five in total from the entire East of England making it into last year’s list.
In total 13 companies from the East were in the top 250.
The highest ranking was Ipswich-based Agricola Group, at nine.
Together, the 13 companies in the East employ 13,700 staff and achieved combined sales of £3bn.
Other firms on the league table included household names such as Harrods, Weetabix, Selfridges, Virgin Active, Arsenal Holdings, Nando’s, Dreams, Paul Smith and Schuh.
