A new children’s play centre is set to open in a Norfolk town on Monday after a previous centre closed at the end of last year.

Hulabaloos children centre will be following in the footsteps of the former Funtime Factory, which used to operate in Ayton Road, Wymondham but shut in October.

Derek and Tracey Gill, joint owners of Hulabaloos, in London Road in nearby Suton, have been advised by the Factory’s former staff when setting up their new centre, which will cater for youngsters aged up to 12 and will boast a Laser area where teams of up to 14 can have shooting matches using laser guns.

There are plenty of other facilities as well, including a party room equipped for birthday parties, ball pits where children can throw soft balls and an outdoor play area boasting climbing frames of various sizes.

During term time, there will also be parent and toddler groups where children can participate in arts and craft activities. There is also a cafe where adults can sit down with a coffee while their children play, while Wi-Fi services are also available.

The Gills have ploughed life savings of more than £100,000 to set up the business and Mr Gill, 46, said there was a need for a children’s centre in the town, especially since Funtime Factory had closed.

Indeed, the couple, who have a daughter Emily, six, had tried to buy the Factory’s former premises, but the deal fell through.

Former poultry business worker Mr Gill said there had already been interest in the centre to the extent that the Hulabaloos page on social networking website Facebook already had 200 visitors.

He added: “They are all local people who have logged onto our Facebook page. There has been a lot of local interest.”
