n A YOUNG Bury St Edmunds businessman who started his company at just 16 has been chosen to represent the East of England as part of the national Enterprise UK ambassador network.

Twenty-year-old entrepreneur Emrys Green has been appointed as an ambassador after being shortlisted in the 2010 Enterprising Young Brits awards in the Teen category. He was among 25 other young people from across the UK, recognised for their entrepreneurship and business skills. He received the accolade for setting up and managing his successful company, CEG Productions.

He started the company at just 16 after completing his GCSEs and when he realised there was a lack of a quality supplier in the local area offering lighting, staging, sound and props supplies and expertise. With a passion for the theatre and performing arts, he decided to fill a gap in the market and took the decision to become his own boss.

His company offers affordable lighting, sound and staging products and the technical skills for setting up and operating specialist equipment in local theatres and performance venues. It also gives support and training to young people wishing to develop technical theatre skills.

In his four years as his own boss, he and his team have developed a strong customer base in the region and have already extended into London. But he has ambitions to expand the business even further afield and eventually into Europe.

As a newly appointed Enterprise UK ambassador, he will share his business knowledge, passion and expertise with other young budding entrepreneurs across the country by visiting schools, leading workshops and mentoring.

“I’m delighted to be appointed as an Enterprise UK ambassador, as this gives the company great recognition and will allow me to speak to other young people thinking of starting their own venture,” he said.

“Being shortlisted in the 2010 Enterprising Young Brits gave me a great chance to reflect on what I’ve achieved so far.”
