Airline KLM is hoping for a boost in passenger numbers after the launch of an extra return flight from Norwich to Schiphol.

Yesterday marked the start of the new 1.55pm service which will provide easier connections to destinations including Rio de Janiero, San Francisco and Dubai.

The airline declined to provide booking figures for the new service, but said that every year there were 130,000 passengers departing and arriving in Norwich from Amsterdam and the new service was a response to an increased demand for the service.

With average load factors – the proportion of passengers using the service – running at 73.3pc, one of the highest across KLM’s UK network, the new service is a reflection of the importance airline bosses attach to the route.

Vincent Kas, head of commercial, Air France KLM UK & Ireland, said: “KLM has a strong presence in Norwich, not only offering local travellers a convenient link to Amsterdam and beyond, but also through is Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme, which has been successfully running for over 25 years.

“This additional frequency is a direct response to customer demand, and we’re delighted to see that so many people from East Anglia choose to fly with KLM.”
