New client wins make it a fantastic year for Norwich-based Creative Sponge

The boss of Norwich-based Creative Sponge said its diversification strategy has paid dividends in the past 12 months as the firm looks at 25pc top line growth.

Alex Tosh, said the EDP Future50 firm, which employs 12 staff at its offices in King Street, was set to see turnover rise from £500,000 to about £650,000 following a succession of new client wins.

Customers range from Jimmy’s Farm, Hoseasons, the John Innes Centre, UEA, and the Dinosaur Park as well as work in the energy sector with Gardline and 3Sun Group.

“We have had a fantastic 12 months,” he said. “We have been really successful in terms of winning pitches.

“What I would like to do in the next 12 months is add another two people and get up to 14,” he added.

“It’s about growing it steadily and maintaining that growth.

“We do struggle to find good people, but we are lucky we have got good people here who don’t tend to leave.”

Now in its 10th year, he said the business set about reducing its reliance on property clients as the recession took hold and was now reaping the rewards of that approach. “Most of that time the country has been in recession, so it’s quite refreshing to be in a period where things are growing,” he added.

“The fact we are coming out of recession means that people are starting to spend money again.

“A potential client approached us recently looking for an agency outside of London, because he was fed up with London agencies.

“Companies there are starting to open their eyes to what’s outside of London.

“Norwich is a really creative centre - the quality of the work is great.
