Infrastructure specialists Lafarge Tarmac is recruiting 10 apprentices in Norfolk as part of nationwide drive to bring more young people into business.

The Solihull-based firm, which trumped Norwich-based May Gurney to the Norfolk County Council roads maintenance contract, hopes to create 60 apprentice positions across the UK this year.

It comes after 150 people were transferred to the business from May Gurney – now trading as Kier MG– as part of the roads contract, which will also see Lafarge create two new depots in Norfolk.

Paul Fleetham, managing director for Lafarge Tarmac’s contracting business, said: “I want Lafarge Tarmac to inspire youngsters into construction and help to create a lasting skills legacy for Norfolk.

“We will be working with Norfolk County Council to ensure our apprenticeship programme provides great job opportunities for the region.

“I believe that our commitment to skills, innovation and R&D means we’re well placed to offer expert support and guidance to nurture skills and kick-start successful careers in construction.”

  • Our local supermarket needs some apprentice shelf stacker's but I'm afraid it only pays £2.68 per hour.
