The Norwich branch of department store John Lewis is gearing up for the Christmas season by taking on 20 temporary sales assistants.
The business is moving to bolster its workforce across a range of departments from the Christmas shop, to furnishing accessories, homeware, fashion and electricals.
The seasonal recruitment drive comes just weeks after a whistle-stop visit from managing director Andy Street who hailed the Norwich branch as one of the better performing stores in the country.
The businesses recently published its half-year results, which revealed that its underlying profit rose 3.9pc to £115m for the six months to July 27 on revenues of £4.22bn.
But pre-tax profits fell 38.5pc to £68.5m after a review of its holiday pay policy cost the company £47m.
Meanwhile, group sales were up 7.3pc to £4.73bn after strong performances from the company’s online divisions.
Waitrose.com reported a sales rise of 40.6pc, while johnlewis.com enjoyed at 17.1pc increase.

John Lewis said the recruitment team trains all Christmas temporary staff to achieve a high level of customer service and build upon John Lewis’s established reputation as one of Britain’s leading retailers.
Two hundred jobs are set to be created after one of west Norfolk’s largest businesses was granted permission to expand its King’s Lynn facilities.
