Richard Gill has taken over T&M Butchers, making him the third generation in his family to own his own shop and the fourth generation butcher.

Mr Gill worked in a Brandon butcher and then in the shop in Downham Market before taking over the business.

He said: “I’m a fourth-generation butcher. I’ve tried other things, but I couldn’t get away from it. It’s in my blood.”

Mr Gill put the success of his new venture so far down to the culture of independent shops in Downham Market.

He said: “Although we have got a couple of supermarkets in the town we have still got lots of lovely independent shops. I think that is the difference. That is what makes the whole town do well and keeps things going.”
