Swimmers were queuing up to take their first dip of the year in Beccles Lido.

Customers began arriving shortly after 7am at the heated outdoor pool, which opened for the season this morning (May 24).

Despite heavy rain first thing, several hundred people had already taken a swim in the 28 degree water by lunchtime.

Shaun Crowley, chief executive of community-run charity Beccles Lido Limited, said: “It is going really well and the weather doesn’t seem to matter.

“It is just a great place to be and people have really taken it to their hearts. They really love it.”

The pool, based in Puddingmoor, is open from 7am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday excluding Thursdays when it is open until 8pm, and open from 7.30am to 6.30pm at weekends.
