Digital entrepreneurs tonight held a special celebration to mark the first year of a group aimed at showcasing the creative industry talent in both Norwich and Norfolk.
Dozens of digital company representatives turned up for the Hot Source “digital extravaganza” event at the NUCA lecture theatre in Duke Street in Norwich.
Founded a year ago, Hot Source aims to bring creative industry professionals together to swap ideas, hold talks and presentations, create online content and promote the sector as well as producing a “mental map” showing what people across the city working in the sector are doing.
The group was set up by Jake Hithersay, from Soak, Tom Wood, from Foolproof and Nania Tait, from Special Design Studio.
Mr Hithersay, director of Soak, said: “We felt that the creative industries sector in Norwich is pretty poorly served and we thought it was a good thing to do.
He said another aim was also to overcome the external perception of people looking to do business with companies in Norfolk.
“If you think about the creative cities, people tend to think about Birmingham, Manchester, London and Birmingham. Norwich isn’t really considered to be one of those creative hotspots, when in actual fact it really is.
Nania Tait, said: “Hot Source is about creating a strong, vital, digital and creative community here in Norwich so that it can make its presence felt locally and further afield.
“We need big players in the county to look within the county for digital and creative services first instead of turning to London automatically.
“The quality and innovation within the community here is second to none.”
As a teenager Matthew Newbury had high hopes of working behind the scenes in the theatre.
