Global travel services firm to create 30 jobs in move to Gorleston’s Beacon Park

Market leading travel services company Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) is the latest global player to move on to Beacon Park in Gorleston.

The move in September will create at least 30 jobs at the outset and cement the park’s fast growing reputation for attracting major companies.

The arrival of HRG, which operates across 120 countries with global revenues of more than £340.8m, comes hot on the heels of other major companies in recent months, including energy sector firms Hydra Rig and MacLean Electrical.

By setting up its first office in Norfolk, HRG will be strategically well placed to serve the growing number of energy firms using the Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Norwich area as their base for world-wide operations.

Ian Windsor, HRG’s Managing Director Europe North, said the oil and gas sector had become an important development area for his company and “like Aberdeen, this area has been identified as a key energy centre”.

He said: “We have a long established history of ensuring that whenever we invest in a new location we become one of the best employers in the region, offering good career prospects, and that we show our commitment to the area by immersing ourselves in the local community.”

Mr Windsor said they had started a recruitment process and the core of their new staff would be business travel consultants with 18 months or more experience. However, HRG also had a very resilient development training programme and they would be looking for a wide range of people; their learning development manager would be seeking to forge links with local colleges.

He said they were confident about the good talent pool that existed locally. “We have a very strong hub of local people in our offices,” he said. There would be scope to expand its base in Yarmouth in the future.

Mr Windsor said significant changes around the globe, such as the opening up of the MINT economies of Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey together with ongoing business travel to leading hubs around the world, has resulted in consistent demand for business travel and corporate services.

HRG’s dedicated team is able to deliver a “one-stop shop” serving all the travel needs of a company, from the planning and policy stage surrounding air travel, covering such issues as visa and health requirements, through every detail including hotels and ground arrangements, and resulting in reporting, data and savings.

Trevor Wainwright, leader of Yarmouth Borough Council, said: “It is really good news for the borough and the region that international companies such as HRG are choosing to invest here and create new jobs at Beacon Park.

“This move represents a huge vote of confidence and boost to the strength of the local economy, and bolsters the borough’s status as a UK capital for the energy industry.

“The council is continuing to develop Beacon Park, thanks to continued investment from the public and private sectors, and HRG will fit in well at Minerva House.”

John Morse, president of Yarmouth Chamber Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted that such a prestigious company has chosen to put some roots down in East Anglia. They can only be a positive contribution to our great county.”
