The farmer-owned business, based in Framlingham, said the increase reflected new members joining the group, an increase in input purchases by existing members and a significantly higher tonnage of combinable crops being handled by its in-house crop marketing department.

AtlasFram, formed in 2008 through the merger of Atlas Agriculture and Framlingham Farmers, currently has around 1,050 members forming a total of 700,000 acres of land across England.

The value of goods ordered through its purchasing department during the half-year period increased by 27.1%, to £63.835million from £50.241m,

Major growth areas for purchasing included tractors, bucking a national downward trend in sales, and livestock feed.

Members’ purchases of fuel also increased significantly while volume growth in other sectors reflected the better crop prices which, in turn, led to increased demand for products such as pre-emergent herbicides, nitrogen fertiliser and cereal/oilseed rape seed.

AtlasFram added that its crop marketing department had benefited from a wider range of marketing options and improved returns following a recent alliance with grain merchant ADM Direct.
