We all have to eat and drink and food, farming and agriculture are a vital part of our region’s economy.
In fact about 50pc of farmed land in the East of England is within Norfolk and Suffolk and agriculture accounts for more than 5,000 businesses and provides work for more than 20,000.
Little wonder that whatever the scale of enterprise, from artisan producer to a multi-national food group, food and farming is big business and the food and farming award is a keenly contested EDP Business Awards category.
Globally, demand for food will grow by 50pc by 2030 with Norfolk and Suffolk currently producing 10.5pc of the UK’s total farm output.
Sponsored by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, the food and farming excellence award is a recognition of the key place the sector has in our local economy.

Greg Smith, RNAA chief executive, said that as the county’s leading agricultural body, representing food and farming across Norfolk through its almost 4000 members, it is only appropriate that the RNAA champions excellence in the sector.
He said: “This award recognises the innovative and enterprising food and farming businesses that showcase the best our county has to offer. Food and farming is a vital and varied part of Norfolk’s economy, ranging from those engaged in growing food on farms across the county to the globally important work being carried out at Norwich Research Park.
“A healthy farming sector can only be good for Norfolk, and these awards help raise the profile and champion the work of the agri-food industry.”
