Former TV weatherman Jim Bacon will be the guest speaker at a series of farm business updates taking place in the New Year.

Mr Bacon, the managing director of Norwich-based weather service Weatherquest, will be discussing issues around climate change and what it could mean for farmers and growers in the region.

He will also outline how Weatherquest’s data is being used in research projects designed to develop crops that are more resilient to weather extremes.

The Norfolk events scheduled are:

• Tuesday February 6: Wortwell Community Centre, Wortwell.

• Thursday February 15: Aldiss Park, Dereham Football Club, Norwich Road, Dereham.

The events run from 9.30am to 1pm followed by a free networking lunch, and will include presentations from the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) and Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) on the future of Countryside Stewardship schemes; the Environment Agency on natural flood management; the Farming Advice Service (FAS) on cross-compliance updates; water companies on water quality and resource issues; and Rural Payments Agency (RPA) on grant opportunities.

Representatives from the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) and Country Land and Business Association (CLA) will also be on hand to answer questions.

Farmers can book places by calling the CLA on 01638 590429.
