The students who represented the UK at the Agrolympics as they vied with other European nations in the searing heat of Porto were Carl Tuck and Oliver Tyrell, both from Norfolk, and Dan Goodwin from Suffolk. It was the third year the event had been held.

Although Team GB was unable to get into the medal positions, they were joint winners of the fair play award with Austria.

Proud farming lecturer Charlie Askew said: “In true British style, our team graciously encouraged the Austrians to collect the fair play trophy first – even though both teams won.

“In terms of the competition overall, the days were long, but everyone really dug in and they were encouraged throughout by college staff and family members. They were a credit to the college and the nation.”
