As the countdown continues to the close of nominations for the EDP/Visit Norfolk Tourism Awards at the end of the month, lead sponsor Hoseasons has found itself in line for a national accolade.

The EDP Top 100 firm, which sponsors the prestigious outstanding achievement category in the EDP awards, has been named by the British Travel Awards (BTAs) as a contender for the Best Holiday Company for Customer Service.

Simon Altham, managing-director of the Lowestoft-based firm, described it as a “real honour to be shortlisted for what is undoubtedly one of the most important national industry awards within the tourism sector”.

He said: “The county is renowned for the friendliness of its people and as such the team at Hoseasons are 100pc committed to offering the best service to our customers, many of whom come back to us year after year. “It would be fantastic for an East Anglian company to win such a prestigious award.”

He urged the whole region to get behind them and vote online for Hoseasons - at - as the awards were judged solely on the public vote.

Highlighting the time and effort they put into training their call centre, currently staffed at the summer peak level of 150, he said: “It is encouraging that customers still like to call in despite the modern-day opportunities to book online.”

He added that Monday had been one of the call centre’s busiest days ever as people rushed to make last-minute bookings.

“In accordance with the modern day trend, 20pc of bookings come within a week of departure these days,” he said.

Concerning the EDP/Visit Norfolk Tourism Awards - now in their 10th year - Mr Altham issued a rallying call for the public to nominate their favourite tourism businesses before the July 31 deadline; businesses can also nominate themselves.

He said “Tourism is so important to Norfolk and when I spoke to the award winners last year they were all very proud of their achievement.”

There are 12 award categories. Simply visit and make your nomination(s) online. The awards culminate in a black tie presentation dinner in November.
