Internet traffic to a sole trader’s website tripled yesterday in the wake of a Twitter mention by Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne.
Mr Bannatyne, founder of a chain of health clubs and spas, retweeted to his 393,000 followers a blog post by Norfolk entertainment consultant and musician Tom Winn.
Mr Winn is a singer on the wedding and corporate events circuit who set up a consultancy and online directory for musicians and entertainers in 2008 from Cremorne Lane, Norwich.
Yesterday he saw the number of page views on his website increase from a typical 3,500 daily clicks to more than 10,400 in the wake of Mr Bannatyne’s tweet.
“It was Duncan’s book that I read before I set up my business - I’d read other books by self-made people before, but nothing had quite grabbed me,” Mr Winn said.
“So I wrote a piece on my site about how it had changed my life. Duncan must have read it and it’s the page he retweeted yesterday afternoon.
“My website traffic went through the roof, I took immediate inquiries and people got in touch who wanted to sign up for a seminar I’m running for people in the industry who want to move from performing in pubs and clubs to corporate events.
“It’s the most traffic I’ve had in a day.”
