Costa Coffee's application to join the Cromer high street has hit another bump after their application for signage at their site in Church Street was thrown out by the Cromer Town Council.

Their application for a fascia sign displaying the cafe's name and a projecting sign off the side of the building have been rejected by the council on the basis that they are illuminated, and will be 'detrimental to the conservation area.'

The council said the illuminated signage would affect: 'Grade I listed Cromer Church, Grade II listed Church boundary walls, War Memorial, and 51 and 53 Church street, alongside locally listed buildings.'

A description of the signs, given by architects SGM Management and Designs, reads: 'The fascia and projecting sign will be internally illuminated providing subtle illumination through the letter faces only.'

The statement continues: 'The proposals are considered to be appropriate to the character of the building as well as preserbe and enhance the overall street scene.'

The final decision will be taken at North Norfolk District Council, either as delegated decision by officers or at planning committee by councillors, however the town council's objection will be taken into consideration.
