The Cliff Hotel is looking to add a second floor extension to the front of the hotel bringing 12 new rooms and bathrooms.

Documents supplied in support of the application say the design will be in keeping with the existing first floor.

The design and access statement prepared by Envision of Rose Lane, Norwich, describes “smooth, rendered paintwork to match the existing colour.”

The papers add that the proposal would not affect adjacent properties which were “a fair distance away.”

No alterations to car parking are planned.

The original Cliff Hotel was a 139 confection of turrets which opened in 1898.

However, after just 17 years surveying the sea it was gutted by fire on Boxing Day.

In the last few years the hotel has received a number of upgrades including the addition of a terrace bar overlooking the coast.
