Businesses sign up to Inspired Youth project to help next generation get a foothold in the world of work

More than 1,500 students from across Norfolk and Suffolk will get their chance to create the next generation of hotels, tourist attractions and restaurants in a series of events across the region over the next seven months.

Inspired Youth has launched its calendar of events for 2013, which will see ten high schools participate in a tourism enterprise challenge. Students will get the chance to create concepts for new attractions for the region, as they pitch their ideas to the judges.

The Inspired Youth project, which was started in 2010, sets out to engage local employers with local students. As well as the tourism enterprise days, businesses involved in the project have already supported events at schools in Norwich, and will be participating in other one-off projects throughout the year.

Founder of Inspired Youth, Rob Whitwood, a member of the EDP Future 50, said: “Following on from last year’s success with working with seven schools, we were keen to expand the involvement across the region. By the end of the year we should have engaged with more than 1,500 students, across fifteen schools from year 6 students right up to post 16. At a time when youth unemployment remains high, everything we can do to encourage employer engagement is critical.”

The project hopes to engage with over 150 businesses this year.

Gary Dickenson, director of web design and marketing company, Creospace, one of the sponsoring partners, said: “Giving back to the community at any level is very important and participating in a scheme that can inspire children to become entrepreneurs seemed to us a perfect project to sponsor as part of our community work.”
