Bury St Edmunds: Servest Group wins £25.5m BBC catering contract

Facilities management service provider Servest Group, which is based in Bury St Edmunds, has won a three-year contract with the BBC to provide catering at 18 locations around the UK.

Under the contract, which is worth £8.5million a year and includes a possible two-year extension, 300 staff will provide a full range of catering services for 14,000 of the broadcaster’s staff and visitors.

The contract, which starts on April 1, 2014, covers 27 outlets including staff restaurants, deli bars and Costa Coffee outlets in addition to catering for meetings and green rooms, and for events such as the Commonwealth Games.

The 18 locations include landmark BBC sites such as New Broadcasting House and Media Village in London and MediaCityUK in Salford Quays, as well as other major centres ranging from offices and production facilities to broadcast sites.

The BBC’s catering was previously delivered by two facilities management providers and their sub-contractors. Servest won the contract, under a competitive tender process.

Alan Bainbridge, director of the BBC’s facilities management re-procurement project, said: “We were impressed by all the bids received but the value and local focus offered by Servest Group made it the right choice for this important contract.

“Having been successful in winning all the procurement lots, the BBC will benefit from both consistency across all sites but local sourcing wherever possible.”
