An independent ship repairer is riding a wave of prosperity in East Anglia’s maritime sector with further investment in its regional operations.

Burgess Marine Lowestoft is currently working on projects in England and France – including the launch of a locally-made pontoon – with a combined worth of £2m. It follows the completion of a project for the UK Border Force in Malta.

Following a restructure it has successfully grown the business locally to support customers such as Boston Putford, Dover Harbour Board and numerous major contracts on the Thames.

The firm acquired the Small & Co shipyard on Commercial Road two years ago, within the ABP owned and operated Port of Lowestoft.

Paul Kirby, general manager of Burgess Marine Lowestoft, said: “Having successfully restructured the business earlier this year it’s great to see further growth locally and we are clearly benefiting by being part of the bigger Burgess Marine business.”

“To have built the Thames pontoon here in Lowestoft is fantastic and furthermore the team have greatly enjoyed supporting works in both Malta and today in France.”
