There was some rare good news on the high street today as Bonmarche confirmed all its shops in Norfolk and shops in Lowestoft, Wisbech and Bury St Edmunds will stay open.

More than 60 jobs have been saved in this region after Sun European Partners bought the Bonmarche brand from The Peacock Group in a so called “pre-pack” administration deal last month.

But staff at Peacocks shops are still waiting to hear their fate as the brand went into administration with The Peacock Group last month.

Administrators at restructuring firm KMPG are currently looking for a buyer.

The saved Bonmarche branches in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire are among 230 which have been chosen to remain trading nationally.

Scott Foley, store manager at the St Stephens Street branch, said: “Staff are thrilled with the news that we are remaining open. We would like to extend a special thanks to all of our customers for their support and messages of encouragement over the last few weeks.”

But in Suffolk, Sudbury and Harwich shops are set to close.

Sun European Partners has a strong presence in the retail sector with companies including Irisa Group, Jacques Vert, American Golf, SCS sofas. Lee Cooper and Scotch and Soda.

Bonmarche sells affordable women’s clothes in a wide range of sizes and is aimed a people over 50 years old.

The Peacock Group owns 611 stores and 49 concessions across the UK including in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Gorleston, Dereham, King’s Lynn, Wisbech, Thetford, Downham Market and Bury St Edmunds.

All Peacocks shops remain open as KPMG seeks to find a buyer for the business and no redundancies have been made. KPMG announced 249 redundancies at the head office in Cardiff, but kept 266 staff to work with the administrators while a buyer for the company is sought.
