Businesses like the British Bed Company are the “bedrock” of Norwich’s economy, MP Chloe Smith said as she officially opened its new factory on Friday.

The Norwich North MP and Treasury minister praised the company, founded by Mattressman entrepreneur Andrew Kerry, for championing local manufacturing and production.

The factory, in Rice Way, off Salhouse Road, will supply Norwich-based Mattressman, but will also supply other retailers. The £250,000 venture has seen 10 new staff employed and Mr Kerry hopes to more than double that in the next two to three years.

Ms Smith said: “It’s great to see another company springing up in Norwich, and even better that they are championing local manufacturing and production.
