A Beccles-based recruitment firm is set to invest £65,000 in overhauling its brand to target the East of England energy industry.

PDS Recruitment is being transformed into People With Energy (PWE) to tackle the growing demand for jobs, and the skills shortages, within the energy sector.

It comes as the company, which also has an office at the Orbis Energy Centre in Lowestoft, recently revealed that it had seen its business go from “strength to strength” after it recorded a turnover rise of £3m this year – up about £600,000 on 2012.

And owner Stuart Smith said he was likely to take on six new staff in the next three years as the firm embraced a period of “evolution and expansion”.

Mr Smith, who took over four years ago after nearly two decades with the business, said: “Over the last few years, we have gone from strength to strength and expect last year’s £2.4m turnover to leap to £3m this year.

“We’re not only stepping up the recruitment business but intend taking on six new staff ourselves over the coming three years.

“Keeping the lights on is paramount so the energy industry is always buoyant. There is not a significant skills shortage yet but with the continuing gasfield work, new nuclear and the developing wind power sector, if we do not get our act together now the gap could become huge. We want to ensure clients are prepared.

“What we are looking to achieve as a business is to provide a seamless support service to our clients.”

PWE is part of a group including sister companies Forces4Energy –recruiting ex-military personnel for the energy industry – and London-based Forces4City, which has a wider industry brief and specialises in finance and information technology.

The company, which has clients including Mott McDonald, Proserv Controls, Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions and 3sun, aims to target recruitment in all tiers of the industry, including directors, senior managers, technicians and labourers.
