A Swaffham business boasting a 30pc profit increase has been given a prestigious national award.
TK Drake, an electrical shop on London Street, was crowned best independent retailer at the Independent Business Awards after 30 years in the business.
An electrician by trade, Terry Drake, 55, set up the company providing electrical contracting in Norfolk in 1984, working from the back of a car. The business expanded in to retail premises in Swaffham in 1999 and has in the last 12 months doubled stock levels and seen turnover increase by a third.
“It’s staff training, customer service and product knowledge more than anything,” Mr Drake identified as the keys to his company’s success.
“We are training our staff, making them knowledgeable and trying our best,” he added.
The shop sells small electrical items such as freezer and ovens, as well as offering plumbing, air conditioning and heating installation service.
Mr Drake, who grew up in Swaffham, said he was over- whelmed at the ceremony held in Northamptonshire by the larger national companies who were recognised alongside his own firm.
