Why do we need offshore windfarms?

Meet energy demands

As our energy demands for transportation, electricity and heating increase, the sources of fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal) which have traditionally provided this energy are depleting.

Conflicts over scarce fossil fuels, such as oil and gas, are anticipated to become more common, further jeopardising the security of supply. We need an alternative energy source to fossil fuels – renewable energy. Renewable energy is energy from inexhaustible sources such as sun, wind and wave power.

Offshore wind turbines will provide a significant source of renewable energy. Governments across the globe have recognised these problems and the UK government has set targets to increase the amount of energy generated from renewable sources in order to wean ourselves off our fossil fuel dependency.
