Why do we need offshore windfarms?
Mitigate the effects of climate change
The global climate changes constantly and is naturally becoming
warmer. Human activity is contributing to this warming causing an
unnatural and dangerously rapid level of climate change to occur.
By burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) we release greenhouse
gases (such as carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere where they trap
the sun’s heat causing the planet to warm like a greenhouse.
This increase in heat energy is causing large changes in climate
patterns that are having increasingly adverse effects on the planet
and human life. In order to mitigate the effects of climate change
we must reduce the level of greenhouse gases that humans contribute
to the atmosphere.
Energy generation burns massive quantities of greenhouse gas emitting
fossil fuels. We need to find an alternative to fossil fuels for
energy and electricity production in order to reduce the negative
effects of climate change. Renewable energy is this answer. Offshore
wind energy is an important part of the switch from fossil fuel
to renewable energy.
Norfolk can play a key role in the UK’s contribution to
the mitigation of the global,
national and local
effects of climate change. |
