Where are offshore windfarms and where will they be?

Development in Norfolk/Suffolk, development area.

Cromer Area

Work on thirty 130-metre high wind turbines four miles from the coast of Cromer was expected to start in late 2004. When complete, the turbines will provide power for 72,000 homes in the area, with costs for their construction expected to reach £110m.

Before the plan was given the go-ahead, concerns were raised about the effect the turbines would have on the area's wildlife, but perhaps more importantly the local crab and fishing industry. Specific concerns were raised about the 50 metre exclusion zone around each turbine and the problems of ships diverting inshore to avoid the wind farm.

However, once complete, the turbines will only have a 20-year lifespan before they are dismantled.
