Karl
Minns has rightly earned his reputation as "that git" with his
innumerable shows, presenting jobs and court appearances.
Born in Bungay, he was brought up in Great Yarmouth, like phlegm. He moved to Nardge in 1992, studying at the Theatre Royal Arts Course.
After trying and spectacularly failing to build a musical career as a bassist, he joined Crude Apache Theatre Company in 1994 where he ruined it for everybody by writing and performing in such fondly hated shows as Billy Bluelight, Tumland Tales, The Story Of Kett's Rebellion and many, many more. (K-Tel).
The first Normal for Norfolk Show was staged at Hector's House in 1996, and in 1997 he teamed up with Owen Evans, and formed The Nimmo Twins. Their 1997 Edinburgh show Posh Spice Nude! was a sell-out success and earned them their first TV appearances on BBC 1's The Stand Up Show.
Their 1998 Edinburgh show, Charged and Sentenced garnered five star reviews and sold out for the entire month. They became regulars on Radio 4's Loose Ends and took the show to New York, Singapore, Paris and, er, Newcastle.
They returned to Edinburgh in 1999, selling out again and recorded their first Radio 4 series, The Nimmo Twins In.
As a stand- up comedian Karl won the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award in Edinburgh in 2001 and played at the Melbourne and Montreal Comedy Festivals before returning and, with Owen Evans, becoming the face of Adnams Beer in a two year campaign that saw their grotesque faces on TV, beermats and most appropriately, urinal stickers. He then wrote The Rapid Eye Movement, which ran for three series on Radio 4 starring Martin Freeman (The Office) The show was nominated for The Douglas Adams Award for Comedy Writing, but there was an incident with The Mighty Boosh and everything went wrong.
Karl became an Evening News Columnist in 2002, becoming Regional Columnist of the Year in 2007.
In Norwich, he has written 11 Normal for Norfolk Shows which have gone from the back rooms of pubs to selling out seventeen nights at Norwich Playhouse in 2005. A new show, A Bat Out of Hellesdon will depress thousands this Christmas.
He's currently writing a one off comedy drama for BBC3 as well as material for Karen Taylor and Perrier award winner, Phil Nichol.
In his spare time, Karl enjoys going to the lavatory and looking out of the window. He is currently bald, which isn't his fault, and single; which almost certainly is. He has Russell Brand's mobile number on his phone, but won't say why.
