Production Project Manager
Answers supplied by Ian Greenfield and Tim
Kingsley, directors at Production Bureau Limited.
Production Bureau is a well established, forward-thinking
company producing conferences, product launches, award ceremonies
and roadshows across the UK and abroad. We are a one-stop-shop
with in-house facilities for everything from set building
to video production.
What does the job entail?
Ensuring the smooth running of every aspect of an event, including
the ability to effectively interpret a brief from clients
and then work with the team to creatively provide the best
solution. As part of the role you would be expected to attend
the events you manage which will necessitate time away from
home.
What skills and qualifications are
needed?
Tact, diplomacy, a cheery attitude and an ability to keep
cool under pressure are needed, as well as being well organised
and PC proficient. A full driving licence and passport are
essential as you will travel widely. A proven background in
event management would be an advantage and any relevant experience
in film or TV would be useful.
What type of person will fit in?
Whilst the rest of the team provide a great support, you will
need to be happy to work under your own initiative. As a project
manager you are responsible for managing your own workload
and time. The team here are a hard-working lively bunch of
people who thrive on challenge, but equally have a healthy
sense of fun when appropriate!
What are the pluses and minuses of the job?
On the plus side, it is varied and interesting work which
will take you to many interesting places both in the UK and
abroad. On the minus side it often involves irregular working
hours and time away from home (although we do our best to
ensure that we balance this out amongst the team).
What opportunities exist for career
progression?
There are always opportunities for individuals who produce
good work.
What can I expect to earn?
This will be very much dependent on the individuals experience.
As a rough guide in the industry generally, salaries would
usually range from £15,000 progressing in some areas
to around £30,000.
