What was your first CD?

As I am over 21, the first album that I bought would have been either on vinyl or cassette as there were no CD's back in the mid seventies! When I started getting into music, I was brought up on a diet of my brothers Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix (which explains the impeccable music taste that I have today!) and so the first album that I bought was.......'Out Of The Blue' by ELO. Not quite sure how I made that shift but there you go....

Who are you listening to now?

Most played albums on my iPod at present are Al Greens Greatest Hits, The Killers Hot Fuss, Page & Plant Unledded and Alison Krauss and Union Station live. I listen to a lot of music and my taste changes to suit the mood I'm in (or the mood I need to try to get into).

Who should be stopped from making music?

Nobody should be stopped from making music, we should just try to expose people to the good stuff and avoid the rubbish.

Kingsley Harris

What was your first CD?

I didn't convert to CD for quite a while into its life, firstly for being a bit of a philistine and thinking it would never catch on, secondly for being a vinyl junkie and just loving the smell of a brand new piece of plastic. When I finally got round to buying a CD player I bought six discs all at the same time to start me off.
The Beatles 'Revolver', Black - 'Black',
Split Enz - 'True Colours' and a few best of's 10cc, Everly Brothers etc.
I soon got bored with these and then started buying them like they were going out of fashion and replaced most of my vinyl collection. Blasphemous! Regrets, I've had a few.

Who are you listening to now?

The Finn Brothers and Athlete are in the players at the moment but it's very much a mood thing, a bad day at work usually ends in Rage Against The Machine or Kinky Machine. On a good day anything from the Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band to the Electric Violin Concerto.

Who should be stopped from making music?

I am being sincere when I say no one should be stopped from making music. Music, like most arts is so subjective that one man's poison really is another mans wine (sorry about the naff cliché). Although if we are talking personal taste I'm not to keen on this boy/girl band culture because it does not encourage people to pick up an instrument and learn to play; the music tends to be third on the list after good looks and dance moves. I usually celebrate down the pub when they split and laugh at the kids crying on TV, sorry...

What was your first CD?

First single (CDs didn’t arrive till much later) was someone like Felicity Kendall reading Beatrix Potter’s Flopsy Bunnies. Embarrassingly enough, I also have a vague recollection of Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs by Brian and Michael (I think). First album bought was The Doors - beginning a long-time affection for all things Jim Morrison.
I stuck with vinyl for a long, long time and I think Nirvana’s Nevermind, which I’m guessing was released in about 1988, was maybe my first CD purchase.

Who are your listening to now?

Hedkandi’s latest 'Beach House' compilation;
the new Royksopp album, 'The Understanding'
Dimitri from Paris 'After the Playboy Mansion'
The Killers 'Hot Fuss'
Badly Drawn Boy (surely a new album is due soon?);
Super Furry Animals.
There’s also plenty of AC/DC, Ramones, Strokes, Green Day etc because we’ve two young children. My six-year-old adores Slash. For him Live8 was Velvet Revolver. ‘Slash is a very bad man’

Who should be stopped from making music?

No one, obviously. However I would happily have Bono removed from the planet. He could also be joined by Chris Martin (Liam Gallagher was so right). I’m not overly fond of Pete Doherty either - even our musicians are celebrities by virtue of their celebrity status these days. I mean, the hopeless fool only continues to have a profile because he’s sleeping with Kate Moss (not such a rock star big deal, really). Tommy Lee wasn’t famous because of Pamela Anderson, he had actually produced some music before becoming a celebrity glossy mag fixture. It’s not very rock n’roll is it? Oh and James Blunt. I hate all that stuff.

What was your first CD?

First CD - I've got no idea! I was quite late in actually getting a CD player and survived solely on mix-tapes and vinyl till about 1996. The first ever album I bought for myself was a Culture Club album when I was about 7 - at the time I was convinced that Boy George was a girl.
